Standard Chartered is inviting applications for its Financial Markets Internship Programme – US 2026 in New York. This 10-week summer programme offers penultimate-year students an immersive experience inside one of the world’s leading international banks. Below are all the key details and tips on how to apply.

About Standard Chartered

Standard Chartered is a global bank with a 170-year legacy across 54 markets, serving over 20,000 corporate, institutional and government clients. Its Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB) arm helps move capital, manage risk and finance growth across some of the world’s busiest trade corridors. What sets the bank apart is its skills-first” culture—valuing potential and diversity as much as credentials—and its commitment to responsible finance, sustainability and community initiatives. For students, this translates into hands-on exposure, strong mentorship and a workplace where inclusion and innovation are more than buzzwords.

Internship Overview

  • 📌 Position: Financial Markets Intern

  • 📍 Location: New York, United States

  • Time Commitment: Full-time

This programme gives you an inside view of how global markets work. You will rotate across two of five key areas—Sales, Trading, Structuring, Financing Risk or Research—so you can discover where your strengths fit best. The structure is designed to mimic the pace of real client work but with the support of managers, mentors and buddies.

Roles & Responsibilities

As an intern you’ll be trusted with real tasks from day one. Examples include:

  • Supporting relationship managers to prepare client pitches and market updates.

  • Assisting traders with market data analysis, trade execution support and risk reporting.

  • Helping structure teams build and price innovative products, using both modelling tools and commercial judgment.

  • Researching macro, FX, credit, ESG, commodities or geopolitical themes to produce insights for internal stakeholders.

  • Contributing to community initiatives and bank-wide networking events to broaden your understanding of global finance.

This rotation gives you a holistic skill set—relationship management, data interpretation, risk awareness and communication—valuable even if you later pivot to another career path.

Qualifications & Eligibility

  • Penultimate-year student (graduating 2027) available to intern June 2026.

  • Strong academic performance plus meaningful extracurricular or leadership experience.

  • Analytical thinking with attention to detail; ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Teamwork, agility, resilience and excellent communication skills.

  • Permanent legal right to work in the United States (no sponsorship provided for US roles).

Applicants from all degree disciplines are welcome. If you’re from a non-finance major, highlight transferable skills—quantitative coursework, coding, research projects, or leadership roles.

Benefits & Perks

  • Pay: USD $40 per hour (expected basic pay).

  • Structured induction, classroom learning, on-the-job training and technical seminars.

  • Mentorship from experienced managers and networking events with senior leaders.

  • Exposure to two different Financial Markets teams to accelerate your learning curve.

  • Participation in community initiatives—valuable if you’re interested in ESG or impact finance.

  • A pipeline to Standard Chartered’s full-time graduate programme for high performers.

Beyond pay, the real value is access: senior bankers, live deals, and a global brand on your résumé.
