Internship Overview

📌 Position: AI Operations Project Intern
📍 Location: Emeryville, California
⏱ Time Commitment: Full Time

You’ll join a cross‑functional R&D group developing SMARTag—Catalent’s award‑winning antibody‑drug conjugate platform. Your mission: build a retrieval‑augmented generation (RAG) knowledge system that helps scientists surface buried data in seconds instead of hours.

Roles & Responsibilities

Design and prototype a RAG pipeline using Python, ChromaDB, and open‑source LLM tooling.
Re‑create popular community strategies (YouTube, Stack Overflow examples) and benchmark them for speed and accuracy.
Index internal reports, electronic lab notebooks, and historical emails so the platform can answer in‑house queries automatically.
Validate citations—confirm that generated answers match source documents.
Produce a clear final report and live demo for Catalent’s AI Council in week 12.
If bandwidth allows, extend the tool with automated web mining, image processing, or a cleaner UI.
Keep meticulous notes on decisions, obstacles, and lessons learned so future co‑ops can pick up where you leave off.

Qualifications & Eligibility

Currently pursuing an associate, bachelor’s, or master’s program in Computer Science, Data Science, Bioengineering, or a related field.
Comfortable coding in Python (R is a plus) and managing subprocesses.
Familiar with vector databases (FAISS, ChromaDB) and embedding models for text retrieval.
Strong problem‑solving chops—able to debug algorithms and optimize for performance.
Self‑starter who can read documentation, test ideas, and iterate with minimal hand‑holding.
Able to commit to a fixed weekly schedule during normal business hours.
Already eligible to work in the United States—Catalent does not sponsor visas for this internship.
