Internship Overview
-
📌 Position: Power Electronics Intern – Summer 2026
-
📍 Location: Raleigh, North Carolina
-
🗓 Duration: Summer 2026
-
⏱ Time Commitment: Full-time
In this internship, you join ABB’s Power Electronics research group, working closely with engineers who design and test circuit boards, converter systems, and next-generation power solutions. Instead of observing from the sidelines, interns contribute to hands-on tasks—testing circuits, analyzing data, building prototypes, and interacting with suppliers working on new semiconductor technologies.
Unique Insight:
This internship is ideal for students who want a bridge between academic power electronics concepts and real-world engineering. Most university projects stay theoretical, but ABB exposes interns to actual lab environments, live circuit debugging, prototype testing, and industry-grade design processes. Students who use this experience well often gain a strong advantage when applying for full-time roles in hardware engineering, converter design, embedded systems, or R&D-focused PhD programs.
Roles & Responsibilities
As a Power Electronics Intern, your day-to-day work may include:
-
Supporting ABB engineering teams with research, testing, and prototype evaluation
-
Planning, building, and modifying test circuits based on design needs
-
Conducting lab experiments and analyzing performance data
-
Identifying components for new designs and validating component behavior
-
Creating numerical models and hardware demonstrations for ongoing research
-
Documenting findings in internal technical reports and presentations
-
Collaborating with suppliers working on new semiconductor and protection devices
-
Communicating insights with research engineers and project teams
Qualifications & Eligibility
To qualify for the internship, applicants should have:
-
Enrollment in a Master’s or PhD program in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or a closely related field
-
Authorization to work in the United States
-
Coursework or project experience in power electronics
