This role sits within the R&D Software Services team at Emerson’s Test & Measurement division (formerly National Instruments). As a Staff Software Engineer, you’ll lead the design and development of advanced tooling and infrastructure for the company’s build systems, release pipelines, and automated software deployment. If you thrive on solving complex problems in a collaborative environment and enjoy working at the intersection of DevOps, CI/CD, and Python-based development—this role could be the perfect fit.
Roles & Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll play a central part in keeping Emerson’s software pipeline optimized and future-ready:
• Design, implement, and maintain automated build tools and installation frameworks
• Drive efficiency and feature enhancements for internal development infrastructure
• Collaborate closely with global product teams to ensure smooth release cycles
• Actively participate in code reviews, feature planning, and design discussions
• Develop reusable tools and test cases to validate and ship high-quality software
• Support product teams with build tooling adoption and technical troubleshooting
• Uphold software development standards and coding practices across teams
• Contribute to documentation, including feature specs and maintenance logs
This role is equal parts engineering and systems thinking—you won’t just build software, you’ll improve how software gets built.
Qualifications & Eligibility
To succeed in this role, you should meet the following criteria:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, ECE, Instrumentation, or related field
• 2 to 5 years of hands-on software engineering experience
• Strong command of Python for backend/system-level scripting and automation
• Exposure to DevOps concepts, CI/CD tools, and software build systems
• Familiarity with Linux environments and shell scripting
• Ability to take ownership, deliver independently, and drive cross-functional collaboration
• Experience with troubleshooting complex technical issues and providing scalable solutions
