Internship Overview

  • 📌 Position: User Research Intern

  • 📍 Location: Remote – United States

  • 🗓 Duration: 12-week summer internship (May–June 2026 start)

  • ⏱ Time Commitment: Full-time

This internship places students at the center of GitHub’s Customer Research team – a key part of the company’s Product and Design organization. Interns will work closely with UX researchers, product managers, designers, and engineering teams to explore customer needs and behaviors.

Rather than focusing on minor tasks, the internship is structured around real project contribution. Interns will gain experience in planning studies, gathering insights, analyzing data, and presenting outcomes that influence product direction.


Roles & Responsibilities

Intern responsibilities include:

  • Supporting research plan development and project scoping

  • Assisting in study design, moderation, analysis, and usability data collection

  • Working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams to align insights with product goals

  • Participating in workshops, journey mapping, and customer discussions

  • Reviewing customer engagement approaches and supporting improvements

  • Presenting research summaries and recommendations

This is a hands-on role designed to show how research guides product development in a fast-moving environment.


Qualifications & Eligibility

To apply, candidates must:

  • Be pursuing a Master’s degree in fields such as:
    Human-Computer Interaction, UX Design, Psychology, Computer Science, Behavioral Science, Human Factors Engineering, Information Science, or related subjects

  • Have one academic term remaining after the internship

  • Be legally authorized to work in the United States

Preferred strengths include:

  • Experience planning or assisting research studies

  • Strong communication and presentation skills

  • Familiarity with developer tools or coding workflow

  • Interest in product development and user-centric design
