• 📌 Position: User Research Intern – 2026

Roles & Responsibilities

As a User Research Intern at GitHub, you will play an active role in helping teams understand developers, their workflows, and the challenges they face. Expect meaningful, hands-on work such as:

• Supporting the creation of user research plans for upcoming features
• Helping scope research questions, select participants, and prepare study materials
• Assisting with end-to-end research activities including study design, test creation, moderating sessions, and collecting insights
• Analyzing qualitative and quantitative feedback from developers and internal tools
• Participating in journey-mapping workshops, ideation sessions, and collaborative product discussions
• Reviewing existing research data to identify gaps, patterns, and opportunities
• Preparing summaries and reports that help product and design teams improve user experiences
• Supporting product teams with customer engagement insights to drive better decision-making

Qualifications & Eligibility

Required:

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in HCI, UX Design, Information Science, Behavioral Science, Psychology, Computer Science, Human Factors, or similar field
• At least one academic term remaining after the internship
• Strong interest in user behavior, product experiences, and research methodologies
• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
• Strong communication skills – both written and verbal
• Authorized to work in the United States

Preferred (Not Mandatory):

• Experience planning or conducting small-scale research studies
• Ability to present insights in a clear and compelling way
• Background with developer tools or technical environments
• Exposure to coding, open-source contributions, or hackathons
