Roles & Responsibilities

As a User Research Intern at GitHub, you will play an active role in helping teams understand developers, their workflows, and the challenges they face. Expect meaningful, hands-on work such as:

β€’ Supporting the creation of user research plans for upcoming features
β€’ Helping scope research questions, select participants, and prepare study materials
β€’ Assisting with end-to-end research activities including study design, test creation, moderating sessions, and collecting insights
β€’ Analyzing qualitative and quantitative feedback from developers and internal tools
β€’ Participating in journey-mapping workshops, ideation sessions, and collaborative product discussions
β€’ Reviewing existing research data to identify gaps, patterns, and opportunities
β€’ Preparing summaries and reports that help product and design teams improve user experiences
β€’ Supporting product teams with customer engagement insights to drive better decision-making


Qualifications & Eligibility

Required:

β€’ Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in HCI, UX Design, Information Science, Behavioral Science, Psychology, Computer Science, Human Factors, or similar field
β€’ At least one academic term remaining after the internship
β€’ Strong interest in user behavior, product experiences, and research methodologies
β€’ Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
β€’ Strong communication skills – both written and verbal
β€’ Authorized to work in the United States

Preferred (Not Mandatory):

β€’ Experience planning or conducting small-scale research studies
β€’ Ability to present insights in a clear and compelling way
β€’ Background with developer tools or technical environments
β€’ Exposure to coding, open-source contributions, or hackathons
